Good to know

How to get there

The Retreat Costa Rica is approximately 40 minutes by car from San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO).

Are children welcome?

The Retreat Costa Rica is primarily an adults-only wellness sanctuary and is not suitable for children under 16. The focus is on peace, healing and personal transformation, making it ideal for solo travellers, couples or friends seeking a restorative escape.

Giving back

Environmental stewardship and responsible practices – The Retreat Costa Rica actively implements a range of measures to minimise its ecological footprint and support the natural environment. These include forest and river clean‑ups, energy and water‑saving programmes with ongoing monitoring, recycling in partnership with the local municipality, and an on‑site composting facility to manage organic waste. Biodegradable products are used in laundry and housekeeping, while fumigation and pest control rely on organic, environmentally safe products. There’s also a reforestation programme on the property to restore and protect local flora.

Local sourcing and community support – The Retreat favours responsible purchasing from local businesses and sources organic produce through its farm‑to‑table restaurant concept, with seasonal, locally grown food forming the daily menu. Excursions and cultural activities are designed to benefit the local community, and around 90 per cent of staff are employed from nearby areas, supported by training and development programmes. The resort also encourages team involvement in social assistance initiatives that support local institutions.

In essence, the policy blends environmental care, community engagement and sustainable guest experiences.
