Why visit Montréal

Montréal is a city that effortlessly blends old-world charm with contemporary culture. With its cobbled streets, Gothic Revival architecture and lively neighbourhoods, it feels distinctly European – yet it hums with a modern, creative energy that’s all its own. Food lovers will be spoilt for choice, from fine dining to buzzing food markets, while festivals take place year-round, celebrating everything from jazz and comedy to contemporary art.

A visit wouldn’t be complete without experiencing Montréal’s passion for ice hockey, catch a game at the Bell Centre and witness the electric atmosphere as the Montréal Canadiens take to the ice. Beneath the city streets lies another surprise: the Underground City, a 33km network of pedestrian walkways linking shops, museums, hotels and metro stations, perfect for exploring during the colder months.

Another highlight is the city’s extraordinary green spaces. From the landscaped beauty of the Botanical Garden – one of the finest in the world – to the panoramic views atop Mount Royal, designed by the same mind behind New York’s Central Park, nature is never far away. Montréal excels at offering moments of calm and connection within a thriving urban environment.

Multicultural

Montréal has long been a gateway for immigration to Canada, with waves of newcomers from Europe, the Caribbean, Asia and Africa shaping its multicultural identity. Today, more than 120 cultural communities call the city home, making it one of North America’s most diverse and cosmopolitan urban centres.

Curling lessons

Montréal is home to the world’s oldest active curling club – the Royal Montreal Curling Club, founded in 1807. Scottish immigrants first played on the frozen St Lawrence River, and the club received its royal charter in 1924, cementing the city’s place in curling history.
