Why visit Toronto

Toronto is one of Canada’s most engaging cities, defined by its diversity, neighbourhood character and cultural depth. Set on the shores of Lake Ontario, it combines a waterfront setting with a confident, outward-looking energy shaped by communities from around the world.

Each district feels distinct, from the historic streets of the Distillery District to the independent shops and cafés of Queen West and Kensington Market. The city’s food scene reflects its global outlook, with everything from refined dining to casual neighbourhood favourites. Toronto also offers strong cultural credentials, with major galleries, theatre, live music and sport all playing a central role in daily life.

Beyond the city itself, Toronto works well as a base for exploring southern Ontario, including Niagara-on-the-Lake and the famous waterfalls. With efficient transport, green spaces woven through the city and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, Toronto rewards both short stays and longer exploration.

Highlights of Toronto

  • CN Tower: Toronto’s most famous landmark soars above the city. Why not take a private early ascent, to enjoy the views of the city and Lake Ontario, or try the thrilling EdgeWalk around the tower’s rim?
  • Toronto Islands: Just a short boat journey from downtown, the Islands offer beaches, bike paths and kayaking. Sunset views of the city skyline are spectacular.
  • Art Galleries and Museums: The Royal Ontario Museum showcases ancient to contemporary art, with private curator-led tours. The Art Gallery of Ontario features Canadian and international art in light-filled galleries, with after-hours visits for a quieter experience.
  • Distillery Historic District: The cobbled streets are lined with galleries, boutiques and small-batch distilleries. The area is particularly charming in winter when the festive lights glow.
  • Harbourfront & Waterfront Trail: Walk, cycle or sail along Lake Ontario, or enjoy an alfresco picnic as the city shimmers at dusk.
  • Toronto’s Markets: Toronto has two very different markets. St. Lawrence Market is historic, with fresh produce, artisanal foods and local favourites. Kensington Market is colourful and lively, full of street art, vintage shops and international flavours.
A Towering Legacy

At 1,815ft, the CN Tower held the title of the world’s tallest freestanding structure for 32 years. Completed in 1976, it was a marvel of engineering, using a concrete-filled steel core and lightning-resistant design. Though overtaken by the Burj Khalifa in 2007, it remains the tallest in the Western Hemisphere and continues to draw travllers for its panoramic city and lake views.

A City Of Trees

Despite its skyline, Toronto is one of North America’s greenest urban centres, with over 10 million trees. Nearly a third of the city is covered in greenery, from leafy streets to sprawling parks and ravines.
