Why visit Whistler

One of Canada’s most iconic mountain destinations, known for its dramatic scenery and year-round appeal. Set in the Coast Mountains, it combines alpine landscapes with a lively village atmosphere that feels both welcoming and easy to navigate.

In winter, Whistler is renowned for its extensive ski terrain, reliable snowfall and well-developed infrastructure. When the snow melts, the focus shifts to hiking, mountain biking, lakes and wildlife, with trails and outdoor experiences accessible directly from the village. Despite its reputation for adventure, Whistler also suits travellers seeking a slower pace, with spas, lakeside walks and relaxed dining.

The village itself is compact and pedestrian-friendly, offering independent shops, galleries and a varied food scene. Add straightforward access from Vancouver and a strong sense of place shaped by nature, and Whistler works equally well as a short escape or a longer stay.

Highlights of Whistler

  • Skiing and snow sports: Whistler Blackcomb offers exceptional terrain, from gentle runs to challenging off-piste slopes. After a day on the mountain, relax in cosy alpine lodges or beside a fire in Whistler Village.

  • Alpine trails: Explore wildflower meadows and forested paths around Lost Lake, Rainbow Mountain and the Whistler Train Wreck Trail.

  • Lakes and water sports: Paddle, kayak or swim in glacier-fed Alta Lake, Green Lake or Lost Lake, each framed by alpine peaks.

  • Adventure activities: Zipline between forest canopies, mountain bike in Whistler Bike Park or ride the Peak 2 Peak Gondola for sweeping views across the valley.

  • Wildlife spotting: Look for eagles above Fitzsimmons Creek and black bears roaming forested slopes in summer.

  • Whistler Village: Pedestrian streets lined with boutiques, cafés and art galleries make it perfect for après ski or a relaxed summer evening stroll.

Olympic Slopes

Whistler Village hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, and you can still explore the slopes and venues used for skiing and snowboarding.

Marmot Call

Whistler gets its name from the hoary marmot, whose high-pitched whistles echo across the alpine slopes.
