Good to know

How do we get there?

Manoir Hovey is around 2 hours from Montréal or 3 hours from Québec.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Manoir Hovey, though the atmosphere leans towards peaceful and refined rather than overtly family-focused.

There are a number of connecting rooms and suites that work well for families, and the lakeside location means plenty of fresh air and outdoor space to roam. In summer, children can kayak, paddleboard or swim in the lake, and in winter, there’s snowshoeing and sledding nearby. While there’s no kids’ club, the team are warm and accommodating, and can help arrange activities suited to younger guests.

That said, it’s best suited to families with older children who will appreciate the quiet, rather grown-up ambience – particularly in the main dining areas.

Giving back

  • As a Relais & Châteaux member, it aligns with three sustainability pillars: social and societal empowerment, environmental conservation, and sustainable cuisine.

  • Biodiversity efforts include maintaining two on-site beehives to promote local pollination and ecological awareness.

  • The restaurant champions sustainable sourcing, working with local producers and initiatives like La Fourchette Bleue, which encourages the use of lesser-known fish species from the St Lawrence River and other responsibly sourced ingredients.

  • Eco-conscious renovations have introduced energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, natural materials, and smart controls – particularly in the spa and guest rooms.

  • Guests benefit from six complimentary electric vehicle charging stations, including options compatible with Tesla and Porsche.

  • Single-use plastics are being actively phased out, with refillable bathroom amenities, minimal packaging and ongoing waste-reduction and recycling initiatives.

  • The hotel is committed to supporting local artisans, farmers and foragers, with menus and experiences that reflect the terroir of the Eastern Townships.

What's nearby?

  • North Hatley village – A short drive (or cycle) away, this charming hamlet is home to antique shops, cafés, a farmers’ market (seasonal) and the picturesque Massawippi Valley.

  • Abbaye de Saint-Benoît-du-Lac – A peaceful Benedictine monastery set on the shores of Lake Memphremagog, known for Gregorian chants, apple orchards and homemade cheeses. Beautiful in autumn.

  • Lake Massawippi – Right on your doorstep, ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming or lakeside picnics. The surrounding hills offer scenic hiking and cycling.

  • Sherbrooke – About 25 minutes away, this university town offers a more urban cultural fix, with a fine arts museum, murals trail and local microbreweries.

  • Compton – A quaint agricultural area known for its cheese trail, cideries, berry farms and autumn harvest festival. Excellent for slow, local food-lovers.

  • Mont-Orford National Park – Around 40 minutes by car, it offers some of the region’s best hiking, biking and cross-country skiing trails, plus lake beaches and panoramic lookouts.

  • Wine route (Route des Vins) – The Eastern Townships are home to Québec’s best wineries. Domaine Les Brome and Léon Courville Vigneron are both within easy reach for tastings with vineyard views.

  • Foresta Lumina – A magical, family-friendly evening light trail through the forest at Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook – especially atmospheric in summer and autumn.
