Giving back

Hotel William Gray is proud to be following the conscious and eco-friendly worldwide mission. Energy-saving measures, including LED lighting, automated thermostats, heat pumps, and energy-efficient kitchen equipment, reduce consumption, while the white elastomer roof helps regulate temperature.

Water conservation is a priority, with low-flow toilets, motion-detection flushes, aerated taps, and filtered water stations encouraging responsible use. Biodegradable products further support the hotel’s eco-friendly approach.

Waste is carefully managed, with recycling for plastics, paper, batteries, and even neon lights. Surplus linens and toiletries are donated to local charities, fostering a culture of conscious consumption among staff and guests.

Dining reflects the same care, prioritising local and seasonal ingredients, fair-trade teas, and eco-conscious practices such as green walls and the removal of plastic straws and Styrofoam. Partnerships with organisations like Tablée des Chefs help reduce food waste while supporting the community.

Guests benefit from sustainable amenities such as electric vehicle charging stations, while staff receive ongoing training in green practices. Floors are closed during low occupancy, office supplies are recyclable, and an eco-social-responsible committee oversees long-term initiatives.

Beyond the hotel, William Gray engages with the wider community through rooftop hives, Green Key certification, volunteering with women’s shelters, support for homeless guests, and staff wellbeing initiatives like city bike tours, demonstrating a commitment to both people and the planet.

What's Nearby?

Hotel William Gray is perfectly placed for exploring Old Montréal. A few steps away, Place Jacques-Cartier is the area’s main square, lined with cafés and small boutiques, and always full of atmosphere. From here, it is a short walk to the Old Port, where you can wander along the waterfront, take a gentle cruise on the St Lawrence or simply enjoy the views across the river.

Close by, Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal’s excellent archaeology and history museum, offers a clear sense of how the city developed from its earliest settlements. The Marguerite Bourgeoys Museum and Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel are also within easy reach and provide a glimpse into Montréal’s religious and cultural past.

You are well placed for gentle rambles too. The Montréal Clock Tower and Champ de Mars, with remains of the old city walls, sit within walking distance and make pleasant stop-offs during a day of exploring. The surrounding streets, particularly Rue Saint-Paul, are filled with independent galleries, small design shops and some of the area’s best places to eat.

For time outdoors, it is simple to reach the Lachine Canal for cycling, walking or kayaking, offering a different perspective on the city and a peaceful contrast to the historic lanes of Old Montréal.

Why we love Hotel William Gray

We love the juxtaposition between the modern design and historic architecture. The rooms are very comfortable and full of work from local artisans. We particularly love the location in beautiful Old Montréal, and from the rooftop garden, the view reaches from the Jacques-Cartier Bridge to the Lachine Canal.
