Over the years, we’ve built a portfolio of unique and characterful properties with an unmistakable sense of place and continue to seek out extraordinary stays to add to our collection.

Historic Architecture: Built in 1913 as one of Canada’s grand railway hotels, the Fort Garry exudes early 20th-century elegance, with original detailing, high ceilings and a dramatic grand staircase.
Central Location: Perfectly positioned in downtown Winnipeg, just steps from The Forks, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Exchange District – ideal for exploring the city on foot.
Elegant Rooms: Many of the rooms feature period furnishings and sweeping views of the city or river, blending classic charm with modern comfort.
Ten Spa: Located on the hotel’s top floor, this full-service spa is a peaceful urban retreat offering treatments, steam showers and a tranquil relaxation lounge.
The Palm Lounge: A Winnipeg institution with live jazz, classic cocktails and old-world atmosphere. Ideal for an aperitif before heading out – or settling in for the evening.
Haunted Reputation: Said to be one of Canada’s most haunted hotels, the Fort Garry has its share of ghost stories – adding a touch of mystery to its storied past.
The Fort Garry Hotel is around 20-30 minutes from the airport in Winnipeg, or, if you are arriving by train from Churchill, it is a 5 minute walk.
Children of all ages are welcome at Fort Garry, although the dining room is perhaps best suited to older guests (there are plenty of options nearby if necessary).
The Fort Garry Hotel holds a third-party sustainability certification through Green Key Global, a leading eco-rating body in the hospitality sector. Their environmental efforts are broad and ongoing, with a clear focus on reducing impact while maintaining high standards of guest experience.
Key initiatives include:
Waste Reduction: The hotel has phased out single-use plastics where possible and has increased recycling across guest and service areas, including paper, cardboard and other materials.
Energy Efficiency: A connected building management system allows the hotel to monitor and optimise heating, cooling and ventilation. This has led to a 20% reduction in energy use across key areas of the property.
Water Conservation: Water-saving measures include the installation of low-flow toilets and real-time utility tracking to identify and reduce excess consumption.
Community and Local Impact: The hotel’s approach to sustainability extends beyond operations, with an emphasis on supporting the local community and protecting the surrounding environment.
While the hotel celebrates its grand heritage, it also looks ahead – integrating thoughtful, practical sustainability into the day-to-day running of this historic landmark.
The Forks (5-minute walk): A historic meeting place at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, now a lively district of markets, local food, public art and riverside trails.
Canadian Museum for Human Rights (10-minute walk): A landmark architectural and cultural institution with powerful, immersive exhibits on global and Canadian human rights.
Union Station (Next door): Winnipeg’s historic railway station, and the departure point for the VIA Rail journey north to Churchill.
Manitoba Legislative Building (10-minute walk): A grand neoclassical building rich with symbolism and history – look out for the famous “Golden Boy” statue atop the dome.
Exchange District (15-minute walk): A beautifully preserved area of early 20th-century warehouses turned into art galleries, shops, studios and excellent restaurants.
Winnipeg Art Gallery–Qaumajuq (20-minute walk): Home to one of the world’s largest public collections of Inuit art, alongside Canadian and international exhibitions.
Assiniboine Riverwalk (Access nearby): A scenic path along the riverbanks, perfect for a leisurely stroll or cycle.
A slice of historical Canada and one of the grand railway hotels, Fort Garry epitomises the design of a by-gone era.
