Good to know

Are children welcome?

Fairmont Le Château Frontenac welcomes children of all ages. Family rooms and interconnecting rooms are available, and cribs or extra beds can be provided upon request. Giving back

Partnered with Laval University, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is proud to be the first historic hotel in Canada to achieve carbon neutrality. As a result, the hotel can contribute to carbon-capture projects in one of the world’s largest teaching and research forests, while also supporting innovative scientific studies, advancing Québec City’s work on forest and soil carbon, and helping to maintain a healthy forest ecosystem.

Sustainability is central to daily operations. For example, the Château prioritises locally sourced ingredients, which not only support regional farmers but also reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint. In addition, a CYRO water filtration system provides zero-kilometre water throughout the hotel. Since 2023, all single-use plastics have been eliminated, further strengthening its eco-friendly approach.

The hotel is also proudly Biosphere certified and has earned five keys in the Green Key Global programme, the highest level of recognition for environmental performance. Moreover, on the roof, four honeybee hives house 70,000 bees, producing up to 650 pounds of honey each year. The bees are vital pollinators, and their honey is used in the hotel’s restaurants and cocktails.

Equally important is the hotel’s commitment to its community. Every year, the Château supports more than twenty organisations and foundations, helping a wide range of causes. For instance, each autumn the grand hall is transformed into an enchanted forest for the Trees of Hope event. Businesses sponsor the Christmas trees, and all proceeds go to the CHU de Québec Foundation. Since its first edition, this initiative alone has raised nearly US$200,000 for children in need

What's Nearby?

The Petit-Champlain District, just a five-minute walk from the hotel, is one of Old Québec’s most charming neighbourhoods. Its cobbled streets are lined with boutiques, cafés, and restaurants, set among picturesque 17th-century architecture. Originally, this area was a path leading to the Champlain Fountain.

A short trip downstream brings guests to Île d’Orléans, a heritage site celebrated for its historical, architectural, and cultural legacy. Visitors can explore vineyards, orchards, and artisan shops, taking in the island’s scenic landscapes and local traditions.

For art lovers, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec is around a 30-minute walk from the hotel. Home to over 42,000 works, the museum showcases the work of Québec artists from the 17th century to the present, offering a broad view of the province’s artistic heritage.

A unique culinary experience awaits at the Hôtel de Glace Restaurant, a short drive from Old Québec. Carved entirely from ice and snow, the hotel serves a Boreal-inspired three-course meal within its snow vaults, creating an unforgettable winter dining experience.
