Good to know

How do we get there?

Fairmont Château Laurier is located in the heart of Downtown Ottawa. Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier Airport (YOW) is the closest airport to Fairmont Château Laurier. The Journey from the airport takes approximately 20 minutes by car.

Are children welcome?

Children of all ages are warmly welcome at Fairmont Château Laurier.  The hotel can provide cribs on request, and a children’s menu is also available at the restaurant.

Giving back

In partnership with Heavenly Honey and the Senate of Canada, Fairmont Château Laurier is helping to combat Colony Collapse Disorder by creating new habitat for honeybees. These hives offer safe space for vital pollinators whose numbers are threatened by the loss of natural nesting sites. Supporting their recovery is a simple but powerful step in protecting fragile ecosystems.

Fairmont Château Laurier is also committed to reducing its own impact. The hotel supports Accor’s Planet 21 programme, which promotes responsible practices across energy, waste and water. It has removed almost all single-use plastics and continues to lower its footprint through thoughtful, everyday action.

The property plays an active role in the local community. Its Eco-Meet initiative encourages visiting groups to volunteer with nearby organisations, while the hotel team joins Ottawa’s bi-annual Clean Up the Capital – a long-standing effort to keep neighbourhoods green, tidy and welcoming.

What's Nearby?

Ottawa is Canada’s cultural heart, brimming with galleries, museums and historic landmarks. From Fairmont Château Laurier, Parliament Hill is just a five-minute walk, while the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of History are both within a ten-minute drive. The Canadian Museum of Nature is around a ten-minute walk, and Rideau Hall, the official residence of Canada’s Governor General, is less than five minutes by car.

For outdoor lovers, Gatineau Park lies about 15 km away, offering hiking trails, forests and wildlife managed by the National Capital Commission for year-round recreation. The Rideau Canal, which passes close to the hotel, becomes the world’s largest ice-skating rink in winter, while its banks are lined with colourful tulips each May for the Canadian Tulip Festival.

The city also hosts a lively calendar of events. February brings Winterlude, North America’s largest winter festival, and summer showcases include RBC Bluesfest and the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival. Nearby ByWard Market, just a ten-minute walk, offers vibrant shops, cafés and local produce, making it easy to explore Ottawa’s culture and cuisine on foot.

Why we love Fairmont Château Laurier

We  love the history of Fairmont Château Laurier, the hotel was inspired by France’s grand châteaux, and when it opened in 1912, it quickly became a hub for politicians, diplomats and writers. The building is such an iconic land mark in Ottawa, and it is situated in the perfect spot beside the Rideau Canal.
