Good to know

How to get there

The most convenient way to reach Xigera is by light aircraft. You will fly from Maun Airport (MUB) to Xigera Airstrip, which is located close to the lodge. The flight typically takes around 30-45 minutes and offers scenic views of the Okavango Delta and its waterways. The camp is a 10-15 minute drive from the airstrip.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Xigera, but the camp typically has an age restriction of 6 years and older. This is due to the nature of the safari activities, which may not always be suitable for younger children, especially walking safaris and game drives.

Giving back

Xigera Safari Lodge is committed to sustainability and responsible tourism practices. Their sustainability policy focuses on reducing environmental impact while supporting the preservation of the Okavango Delta and its wildlife. Key aspects of their approach include:

  1. Eco-Friendly Design: The lodge was built using sustainable materials and is designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment. The use of locally sourced materials and eco-friendly construction methods ensures minimal disruption to the natural habitat.
  2. Solar Power: Xigera operates primarily on solar energy, with solar panels powering the lodge’s facilities. This reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources and helps lower the camp’s carbon footprint.
  3. Water Conservation: The Okavango Delta is a water-scarce region, so Xigera implements water-saving measures throughout the lodge. The camp uses water-efficient technologies, including water-recycling systems, to reduce waste and ensure sustainable water usage.
  4. Waste Management: Xigera follows a strict waste management policy, which includes recycling, composting, and minimizing the use of plastic. Non-biodegradable waste is responsibly disposed of, and efforts are made to keep the lodge as waste-free as possible.
  5. Wildlife Conservation: The lodge operates within a prime conservation area of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve and actively contributes to local conservation efforts. By providing a low-impact, high-value form of tourism, Xigera helps to protect the Delta’s unique wildlife and supports local conservation initiatives aimed at preserving endangered species.
  6. Community Engagement: Xigera works closely with local communities to ensure the benefits of tourism are shared. They support community development projects, provide employment opportunities, and engage in education initiatives to raise awareness about conservation and sustainable practices.

Why we love Xigera

With just a small number of suites and a dedicated team the experience here really feels like being welcomed into a home rather than a lodge. There are few places where the staff take so much time to tailor your experience than here.
