Good to know

How to get there

The most efficient way to reach the camp is by light aircraft. You will fly from Maun Airport (MUB) to one of the nearby airstrips in the Okavango Delta, typically Gomoti Airstrip. The flight takes around 20-30 minutes and offers stunning views of the Delta’s waterways and wildlife from above.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Gomoti Plains, but the camp typically has an age restriction of 6 years and older. This is due to the nature of the safari activities, which may not always be suitable for younger children, especially walking safaris and game drives.

Giving back

Gomoti Plains is committed to sustainable tourism practices, aiming to minimise its environmental impact while contributing to the conservation of the Okavango Delta’s fragile ecosystem. Key aspects of their sustainability policy include:

  1. Eco-Friendly Infrastructure: The camp is designed with minimal environmental impact in mind. It uses sustainable materials, such as canvas tents, which are both lightweight and eco-friendly. The design of the camp ensures that it blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings, reducing the disruption to the delicate environment.
  2. Energy Efficiency: Gomoti Plains operates primarily on solar power, with solar panels providing electricity for lighting and other camp services. This reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources and lowers the camp’s carbon footprint.
  3. Water Conservation: In a region where water is scarce, Gomoti Plains employs responsible water management practices. Water is carefully monitored, with systems in place to reduce waste and ensure the efficient use of this vital resource.
  4. Waste Management: The camp follows a strict waste management policy, including recycling and composting where possible. Efforts are made to limit waste production, and all non-biodegradable waste is responsibly disposed of to avoid harming the environment.
  5. Wildlife and Habitat Conservation: Gomoti Plains is located in a private concession within the Okavango Delta, where they actively contribute to conservation efforts. By operating in a low-impact manner, the camp helps protect local wildlife habitats and supports efforts to safeguard endangered species like the African wild dog and rhino.
  6. Community Engagement: The camp works closely with local communities to ensure that the benefits of tourism are shared. This includes employing local staff, supporting community-based conservation initiatives, and contributing to regional development projects that promote sustainable livelihoods.
