Flora Sweeting shares her experience of travelling on Vietnam’s most luxurious train.

Feeling a little bleary-eyed, I left my Hoi An hotel bright and early, eagerly anticipating my journey to Quy Nhon, where I would soon bask on white, powdery beaches.

Upon arrival in Da Nang, I was warmly greeted by a friendly member of staff who swiftly whisked away my luggage and led me to the cool, air-conditioned lounge. It was the perfect place to relax and refresh before boarding the Vietage train.

The cabin itself is a harmonious blend of East meets West, exuding a calming atmosphere with its light woods, bamboo cane accents, and soft lines. The intimate two-person booths were incredibly comfortable, offering the ideal setting to sit back and enjoy the scenic views as they slowly rolled by. Travelling by train in Vietnam may not be the fastest mode of transport, but it is perfect for those who relish taking their time and sipping a glass of bubbles along the way.

Once on board, I discovered that all drinks and food were complimentary, with only a few select items, such as caviar, available at an extra cost. My six-hour journey included a delightful assortment of pastries for breakfast and a sumptuous three-course fine dining lunch. Each bite was a reminder to take my time, sit back, and savour the views.

The journey itself was a visual feast. The train meandered through lush green landscapes, past terraced rice fields and quaint villages where local life unfolded just beyond the windows. The unhurried pace of the train allowed me to fully immerse myself in the beauty of Vietnam’s countryside, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of city life.

The attentive service on the Vietage train was impeccable. From the moment I boarded, the staff ensured that every aspect of the journey was seamless and enjoyable. Their warmth and professionalism added to the overall sense of luxury and relaxation.

As the train approached Quy Nhon, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. The combination of stunning scenery, exquisite cuisine, and luxurious comfort made this journey an unforgettable experience. The Vietage train offers a unique way to travel through Vietnam, one that allows you to slow down and truly appreciate the journey as much as the destination.

Stepping off the train in Quy Nhon, I was ready to continue my adventure on the pristine beaches, but the memories of my time on the Vietage lingered. It was more than just a mode of transport; it was a highlight of my trip, a reminder that sometimes the journey itself is the destination.

In conclusion, the Vietage train is a must-experience for anyone travelling through Vietnam who values luxury, comfort, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in the country’s breathtaking landscapes. Whether you’re a seasoned traveller or a first-time visitor, this journey will leave you with lasting memories and a newfound appreciation for the art of slow travel.
