Good to know

How do we get there?

To reach Taj Gangtey in Bhutan’s Phobjikha Valley, you would typically fly into Paro International Airport, the country’s only international gateway. From Paro, a scenic drive of approximately 4 to 5 hours unfolds through winding mountain roads, forested passes, and traditional villages, gradually opening into the wide glacial bowl of the valley.

Alternatively, you may fly into Bathpalathang Airport in Bumthang (via a domestic flight from Paro), followed by a 3 to 4-hour drive through changing highland landscapes, monasteries, and rural settlements. In both routes, the journey itself is an immersion into Bhutan’s dramatic Himalayan scenery and distinctive architectural heritage.

What is included?

A stay at Taj Gangtey offers flexible dining options, including full board (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), half board (breakfast and dinner), or a bed and breakfast basis for those who prefer a more independent rhythm of travel.

Are children welcome?

Children are very much part of the experience at Taj Gangtey, where time in the valley naturally encourages curiosity, play, and connection with the outdoors. Surrounded by vast open landscapes and traditional village life, younger guests are invited to step into local rhythms through simple, hands-on encounters such as visiting nearby farms, exploring forest trails, and discovering the black-necked crane habitat in season.

Giving back

Sustainability at Taj Gangtey is closely tied to its setting within the ecologically sensitive Phobjikha Valley, a key habitat for the endangered black-necked crane. The approach is centred on keeping the footprint light, ensuring the architecture and placement of the lodge sit in harmony with the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it.

There is a strong emphasis on low-impact design and responsible operations, with an intent to preserve the natural contours, open views, and biodiversity of the valley. The experience is shaped to encourage guests to engage meaningfully with the environment, fostering an awareness of the fragility and importance of this unique Himalayan ecosystem while supporting Bhutan’s broader commitment to conservation-led tourism.

Why we love Taj Gangtey

We love Taj Gangtey as it feels like it belongs completely to the Phobjikha Valley, rather than sitting apart from it, everything here is shaped by the landscape. It’s luxury, but in a very understated way, where the focus is less on formality and more about feeling connected to where you are.
