Highlights

  • Forest-within-a-forest location: Set in a pine forest above a trout-filled stream in the Bumthang valley, the lodge is designed to blend with its natural surroundings rather than impact them.

  • Timber suites with private courtyards: Every suite is built of wood and includes a private courtyard with a tree planted in the centre, plus spacious balconies with valley and forest views.

  • Comfortable, well-equipped interiors: Suites include a wood-burning bukhari stove, bathtub and rain shower, organic bedding and linens — all blending comfort with natural materials.

  • Signature dining on the forest edge: The lodge’s restaurant, Tongtshang (Pine Forest), offers hearty local dishes using valley-grown ingredients, often enjoyed fireside or on a terrace surrounded by pine trees.

  • Spa and wellness inspired by Bhutanese traditions: Guests can unwind with a traditional Dotsho hot-stone bath or the signature Hingsangsa Zoni bathing ritual, using Himalayan salts and herbal therapies to encourage relaxation and wellness.

  • Doorway to culture, trekking and local life: From the lodge, guests can access the valleys and hills of Bumthang, with opportunities for treks, mountain-biking, village visits, monastery tours and exploring rural Bhutanese life in a calm, slow-paced setting.

Good to know

How do we get there?

Paro International Airport (PBH) is Bhutan’s only international airport. From there, guests can take a short domestic flight to Bathpalathang Airport (BUT) in Jakar, Bumthang. The flight takes about 30 to 40 minutes. From Bathpalathang, Six Senses Bumthang is just a 10 to 15 minute drive.

Guests travelling from Gangtey can take a scenic overland route. The road winds through terraced farmland, deep river valleys, and hills dotted with traditional farmhouses. Herds of yak are common on the high passes. With some luck, you may see wild boar, deer, or rare pheasants. The route passes Trongsa Dzong, the royal seat of Bhutan’s first two kings. Then it climbs over the Yotong La Mountains, often shrouded in cloud and mist. The descent leads to the Chumey Valley, known for Bhutan’s famous Yathra weaving. This drive takes five to six hours.

Are children welcome?

Six Senses Bumthang welcomes children of all ages.

Giving back

Six Senses Bhutan helps the environment and local communities. It sources food and products locally, supports farmers and artisans, and uses seasonal ingredients from its own organic gardens. Guests can join projects like improving classrooms and libraries at the 16th-century Chorten Nyingpo monastery in Punakha. They can also help build new reading salas, a football field, or make renovations for the resident monks. The resort promotes conservation, cultural preservation, and responsible tourism. These efforts help protect Bhutan’s natural and cultural heritage.

What's Nearby?

The valley is rich with history and culture. Nearby Wangdichhoeling Palace was home to the late King Jigme Wangchuck, with auspicious prayer wheels beside it. Further up lies Kurjey Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites, once the resting place of Guru Rimpoche, and Jambay Lhakhang, known for its early winter festivals that draw thousands of Bhutanese. Back in town, Tamshing Monastery is famed for its sin‑alleviating rituals, while the valley’s cottage industries offer a taste of local craft at Red Panda Brewery, the Bumthang Cheese and Dairy Facility, and the Bumthang Distillery.

Why we love Six Senses Bumthang

One of the best things about Six Senses Bumthang is how remote it is. It is far off the beaten path, and the journey there feels like an adventure in itself! From your suite, you can hear birds singing and the wind in the trees. It is a peaceful place where you can relax, breathe fresh mountain air, and feel truly away from the rest of the world.
