Good to know

How do we get there?

To reach COMO Uma Punakha, you first fly into Paro, the country’s only international airport. Flights arrive from cities such as Bangkok, Delhi and Kathmandu, usually with Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines. From Paro, it is a scenic drive of around five hours to Punakha, crossing the high Dochula Pass before descending into the valley.

Are children welcome?

Children are welcome at COMO Uma Punakha,  and the larger villa options are great for families.

The property focuses on immersive experiences such as hiking, cultural activities and time in nature, which can suit older children.

There are also babysitting services available for additional costs.

Giving back

The property actively reduces its environmental footprint through a range of measures. It operates as a plastic bottle‑free zone, providing reusable water bottles to guests and refilling them throughout a stay. In guest rooms, plastic packaging and disposables have been replaced with sustainable alternatives such as wooden bath‑salt spoons and reusable waste liners. Lighting is being converted to LED throughout, and the hotel sources the freshest ingredients possible by growing produce in its own organic garden and composting kitchen waste to enrich soil. Staff and suppliers work together to minimise food waste, diverting surplus to animal feed or community shelters.

COMO Uma Punakha also engages in social initiatives that benefit people beyond the lodge. It raises funds for local causes — including support for organisations that provide vocational training for differently abled children — and regularly donates the property’s excess pine needles to local farmers free of charge, helping them create natural fertiliser without costly transport or materials. Through these efforts, the lodge contributes to both community wellbeing and sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

What's Nearby?

From COMO Uma Punakha, you can explore the best of the Punakha Valley. Highlights include a visit to Punakha Dzong, the historic fortress-monastery on the banks of the Mo Chhu river, still an active religious centre and a valley highlight.

The valley’s Mo Chhu river offers gentle rafting and scenic riverside excursions, passing traditional villages, rice fields, and smaller temples.

You can enjoy village walks and temple visits, exploring local life, temples, and paddy fields.

Longer excursions can include Chimi Lhakhang (the Fertility Temple) or Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a three‑storey stupa promoting peace and harmony, both easily reachable from the lodge.

Guided hikes and outdoor exploration through rice paddies, orchards, and gentle foothills allow you to experience the valley’s natural beauty and local culture.

Why we love COMO Uma Punakha

The small number of rooms make the hotel feel incredibly personal and calm. The location is also terrific with the most amazing views over the valley, particularly from the Shambhala Uma Punakha, which is the fantastic wellness centre.
