Charter flights to nearby airstrips such as Tower Hill or Orange Walk can also be arranged for quicker access. Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome. The immersive wildlife and archaeological activities make this a fantastic choice for families, particularly those with older children interested in nature and history. Some excursions may have age restrictions, but the staff are happy to tailor experiences accordingly.

Giving back

The lodge supports the Lamanai Field Research Centre, which conducts archaeological and ecological research in the region. They work closely with local communities, employing village residents as guides and staff, and run initiatives focused on wildlife conservation and habitat restoration. The property also operates off-grid, relying on solar power and rainwater catchment to minimise its environmental impact.

What is nearby?

Lamanai Outpost Lodge is perfectly placed for exploring both ancient history and vibrant jungle life. Just three minutes away by boat, the Lamanai Maya ruins offer an atmospheric introduction to Belize’s archaeological heritage, best visited at dawn before the crowds arrive. The surrounding lagoon and wetlands are teeming with wildlife—sunrise canoe trips take you through Dawson’s Creek in search of manatees, crocodiles, otters and kingfishers.

The nearby forest trails offer everything from Jungle Dawn walks with naturalists to night-time safaris spotting kinkajous, tarantulas, owls and howler monkeys. Cultural experiences include visits to the local village of Indian Church to explore Maya healing traditions and help prepare a traditional lunch with a women’s cooperative. For something more active, guests can go lake tubing, take a sunset airboat safari, or ride through the savannah in a Polaris vehicle. The area is also one of Belize’s best birding hotspots, with over 400 species recorded within a short radius.

Activities can be booked with us in advance or upon arrival. To secure the best possible guide for your experience we recommend booking these in advance.
