Highlights

  • Vineyard location – The Louise sits on a gentle rise surrounded by some of the region’s oldest vines. Sunrise and sunset cast a golden hue over the valley, and you’re only minutes from Barossa’s most storied cellar doors. It’s the ideal base for immersing yourself in wine country without ever feeling crowded.

  • Luxury suites – Each suite is beautifully styled with contemporary furnishings, local art and generous indoor-outdoor space. Expect features such as private courtyards, rain showers under the stars, king-sized beds, fireplaces and vineyard-facing terraces designed for long, unhurried evenings.

  • Appellation restaurant – With a philosophy centred on locality and seasonality, Appellation serves one of the most elegant dining experiences in the state. Menus change frequently, with produce sourced within a short radius and wines curated to reflect both iconic and under-the-radar producers.

  • Tailored wine experiences – Go beyond standard tastings with private access to boutique wineries, barrel-room sessions and personal introductions to winemakers. These are curated to your palate, from bold Shiraz to experimental small-batch blends.

  • Sunrise hot air ballooning – Gently lift above the Barossa as morning mist rises from the vines. It’s a serene, timeless way to take in the landscape, followed by a Champagne breakfast on return.

  • Countryside walks and cycling – Meander between cellar doors, artisan producers and villages via quiet country lanes. The Louise provides bikes and maps, or we can arrange a guide to accompany you through hidden corners of the valley.

Good to know

How do we get there?

The Louise is approximately 70k from the airport in Adelaide. The journey generallly takes around 1 hour. For a spectacular arrival, however, you can also make the journey by helicopter, arriving directly at the hotel.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at The Louise, although the property is best suited to older children or teenagers rather than younger families.

This is a serene, wine-focused retreat designed with couples and grown-up travellers in mind. You won’t find a kids’ club or typical family facilities, but the team are wonderfully accommodating and can tailor experiences to suit families travelling together. Think private villa-style suites with room to spread out, early mealtimes if needed, and flexible dining options.

For families with older children, around ten and up, there’s a surprising amount to enjoy in the Barossa beyond the cellar doors. Activities include hot-air ballooning at sunrise, cycling through vineyards, hands-on chocolate-making workshops and wildlife encounters in nearby reserves.

Giving back

Local sourcing and supporting small producers
Most of the food and wine served at Appellation, their celebrated restaurant, comes from within 30 km of the kitchen door, including seasonal fruit and vegetables grown in their own garden. Around 85% of their food and wine is sourced from within South Australia, with a focus on non-GMO ingredients and producers who farm organically, biodynamically or using traditional methods.
The kitchen team preserves excess produce by pickling or smoking, bakes sourdough with locally milled flour, and carbonates filtered rainwater instead of relying on bottled water.

Water management and waste-water recycling
The Louise collects and uses rainwater, and has an onsite treatment plant where waste water is recycled to irrigate the gardens. These gardens are planted with indigenous species and use subsurface irrigation to minimise water waste.

Reduction of single-use plastics and recycling
Plastic straws have been eliminated and replaced with reusable stainless-steel ones. Paper and glass recycling is practised across the property, with a broader commitment to reducing waste throughout the guest experience.

Supporting the local community and economy
The Louise employs around 45 staff members from the surrounding area and works with local builders and tradespeople. The team also supports local events, including regional wine shows, and works closely with local farmers, winemakers and artists to help keep the Barossa economy thriving.

Guest experiences with a sense of place
Guests are encouraged to engage meaningfully with the local environment and community — whether that’s having breakfast among kangaroos, visiting small-scale wineries, cycling through the bush, or taking part in a cooking class using ingredients foraged or grown nearby.

Why we love The Louise

The Louise’s restaurant, Appellation, is a true highlight, with over 85% of ingredients sourced locally, it offers a hyper-seasonal, deeply personal dining experience that distils the spirit of the Barossa.
