Why visit Mendoza

Mendoza is far more than Argentina’s wine capital. Framed by the snow-capped Andes and blessed with over 300 days of sunshine each year, it is a destination where exceptional food and wine sit alongside memorable outdoor adventures. One day you could be enjoying a private tasting with a winemaker, the next riding through vineyards, hiking mountain trails or rafting along a glacier-fed river.

While Malbec made Mendoza famous, the region’s appeal extends well beyond its wineries. Boutique vineyards, many family-owned, offer deeply personal experiences, from leisurely lunches beneath ancient trees to exclusive cellar tours and expertly paired dinners. The cuisine is equally impressive, celebrating local produce cooked over open flames and served with wines produced just metres away.

Beyond the vineyards, the Andes provide an ever-present backdrop. Scenic drives reveal wide valleys, colourful mountain landscapes and traditional villages, while nearby Aconcagua Provincial Park offers spectacular views of Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside Asia.

Whether enjoyed as part of a wider Argentine journey or as a destination in its own right, Mendoza combines luxury, gastronomy and adventure with effortless style.

The green city of Mendoza

Highlights of Mendoza

  • Private winery experiences – Go beyond traditional tastings with exclusive vineyard tours, cellar visits, blending sessions and long lunches hosted by some of Argentina’s finest winemakers.
  • The Andes – Snow-capped peaks provide a dramatic backdrop to Mendoza, whether you’re driving mountain roads, horse riding through the foothills or simply enjoying the view with a glass of Malbec.
  • Exceptional cuisine – From relaxed vineyard grills to internationally acclaimed restaurants, Mendoza celebrates locally sourced produce paired with wines made just metres from your table.
  • Luxury lodges – Stay among the vines in beautifully designed boutique estates, where personalised service, spa treatments and vineyard views create an unhurried escape.
  • Adventure beyond the vineyards – Hike, cycle, raft, kayak or horse ride through spectacular mountain scenery, with experiences tailored to both seasoned adventurers and families.
  • Aconcagua – Visit Aconcagua Provincial Park with views of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas and an unforgettable highlight of any journey through the region.
Glacial green city

More than 100,000 trees line Mendoza’s streets and parks. Fed by Andean meltwater, they transform what would otherwise be a semi-arid landscape into one of Argentina’s greenest cities.

Ancient vines

Unlike Europe, where the devastating phylloxera epidemic destroyed almost every vineyard in the late 19th century, many of Mendoza’s oldest vines still grow on their original roots thanks to the region’s dry climate and sandy soils.

Getting to Mendoza

The city is well served by domestic flights from across Argentina as well as international connections to Santiago de Chile, Lima, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and even Punta Cana in the Caribbean.

It is also possible to travel between Santiago and Mendoza by road. It is a long journey of around 7 hours, but is also one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the world.

OUR FAVOURITE TIME TO VISIT

Mendoza really is a year-round destination with 300 days of sunshine a year. If you are there in March, you will have the autumnal colours and the Vendimia festival that accompanies the harvest, and while July and August can be chilly, they are also the best time to explore the local ski resorts.
