Why visit Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is a city best explored neighbourhood by neighbourhood, with each district offering a distinct character and atmosphere. In elegant Recoleta, grand mansions, leafy avenues and ornate mausoleums hint at the city’s European influences, whilst nearby Palermo combines stylish boutiques, contemporary galleries and some of Argentina’s most exciting restaurants and bars.

To the south, San Telmo provides a glimpse into old Buenos Aires. Cobbled streets, colonial architecture and lively markets create a distinctly bohemian feel, whilst tango musicians and dancers still perform in its plazas and cafés. Nearby La Boca is one of the city’s most colourful districts, famous for its brightly painted buildings, artistic spirit and deep-rooted football culture.

Along the revitalised waterfront of Puerto Madero, sleek skyscrapers and contemporary restaurants showcase a more modern side of the capital. Meanwhile, neighbourhoods such as Belgrano and Colegiales reveal a quieter, more residential pace of life, where locals gather in parks, cafés and traditional parrillas.

Together, these contrasting districts create a city of remarkable diversity. One moment you are admiring Belle Époque architecture, the next discovering contemporary street art or settling into a neighbourhood café. It is this variety, and the ease with which visitors can move between these different worlds, that makes Buenos Aires one of South America’s most captivating cities.

OUR FAVOURITE TIME TO VISIT

The city is full of jacaranda trees which bloom with a beautiful purple blossom twice a year, transforming the city. This happens in October and November as well as February and March. Aiming for these months also means you miss the intense heat and humidity of mid summer (December and January).
