Good to know

How to get there?

  • By private 4WD with driver-guide: The most comfortable and flexible way. The journey takes 5–6 hours, climbing through dramatic Andean scenery. You’ll pass Purmamarca and its Cerro de los Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colours), before winding up onto the high-altitude salt flats at around 3,450m.

  • By self-drive: Hiring a car is possible, though the roads climb steeply and conditions can be challenging. A 4WD is strongly recommended. The route follows Ruta 9 and Ruta 52 through Jujuy province.

  • By combination trip: Many visitors stop overnight in Purmamarca or Tilcara in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, breaking up the journey with cultural visits and short hikes. From Purmamarca it’s about 1.5 hours to Salinas Grandes.

Are children welcome?

Children from the age of 12 upwards are welcome at the camp, the environment and altitude is not suitable for younger travellers.

Giving back

At Pristine Camps Salinas Grandes, sustainability is at the heart of everything. The camp is designed on the principle of “triple impact” – creating positive change socially, environmentally and economically. Working closely with indigenous communities, they support cooperative ventures and training programmes that empower local people and keep cultural traditions alive.

Environmentally, the camp is almost entirely solar powered, with one of the largest photovoltaic systems of its kind in Argentina. Buildings are designed to blend with the natural landscape, using methods that protect the delicate salt flats and reduce long-term impact. Strict standards are followed for waste, water and energy use, ensuring the environment remains as untouched as possible.

By sourcing locally and employing within the region, Pristine generates income and opportunities that directly benefit surrounding communities. Certified by Biosphere Sustainable, the camp demonstrates that authentic travel experiences and responsible tourism can not only coexist, but thrive together.

Why we love Pristine Camps, Salinas Grande

This is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular locations on the planet and the domes are beautifully designed to make the most of that. At 3,500m above sea level the sky at night is truly a wonder.
