How to get there

You can reach Bahía Bustamante by flying into Trelew Airport or Comodoro Rivadavia Airport, then continuing by road for around 4–5 hours through remote steppe landscape. The final stretch is on private dirt tracks, with the lodge typically arranging transfers for guests from the nearest airport or town.

Are children welcome?

Yes. Children are welcome at Bahía Bustamante, making it an ideal choice for families looking for an immersive nature experience. The lodge offers spacious rooms and a wide range of guided outdoor activities in a safe, private reserve, allowing children to engage closely with wildlife, beaches, and the surrounding Patagonian landscape.

Giving back

Bahía Bustamante Lodge is run as a conservation-first retreat inside a private nature reserve, where tourism is deliberately small-scale and designed to protect the surrounding wildlife and landscapes. The lodge focuses on low-impact stays, guided experiences, and limited visitor numbers to ensure minimal disturbance to penguin colonies, marine life, and the wider Patagonian ecosystem.

Much of its sustainability approach comes from working with the land rather than against it, including careful stewardship of the surrounding estancia, restoration of existing buildings, and practices that preserve both natural habitats and the site’s historic character.

What's included

Bahía Bustamante Lodge is typically offered on a full-board basis, with all meals included and centred around locally sourced Patagonian ingredients, often served in a communal, home-style setting that reflects the property’s remote location.

A wide range of guided experiences are also included, including wildlife visits to penguin and sea lion colonies, boat trips to nearby islands, 4×4 excursions across the steppe, and walking or hiking activities through the surrounding reserve. Equipment and expert guiding are generally provided, allowing guests to explore the landscape without needing to arrange additional logistics.

Why we love Bahia Bustamente

The lodge has an extraordinary sense of remoteness, where empty Atlantic beaches, abundant wildlife, and vast untouched landscapes come together to create a truly rare and immersive Patagonia experience.
